Jolee's Jewels
by Jolee Tucker
Having met Mr. Gardner prior to reading
the book and hearing the tale first hand from
his mouth, I can tell you
that the reading of
this book will put you in the presence of the
man himself. Rarely do I find the way a
biographical book to be written so inline with
the grammer, speech patterns or thought
processes as the author themselve when
viewed on TV or met in peron. This brings
such an authenticity to the book that I can
not help but to feel like the experiences I've
just read about weren't told to me verbally
from Mr. Gardners own mouth.

The book does detail the extensive
lengths that Mr. Gardner went through in
order to keep his self made promise of never
leaving his son and ensuring that his baby
didn't have to grow up with out a father in his
life.

While his story is inspiring and
encouraging there is a spot near the end that
makes me question if his earned success
made him break that promise. I don't want to
give away something that Mr. Gardner
explains he does, but having thought about
his promise that drove him to extremes, I am
not sure that he didn't break a promise to
himself if even for a greater good. Once you
read it, you tell me what you think!

I must say, the book differs from the
movie and both do well to hold thier
audiences. With that said, you should be
warned that there is a crudeness in the book
that caught me a bit off guard at first and I
came to expect (but not willingly accept) the
expressive language and description as
experiences were relayed to myself as the
reader.
